How do I decide which service to book?

At Complement, we understand that choosing the right service can be crucial for your well-being. We invite you to read about our integrated philosophy and approach here [link] and reach out if you have questions [link], however, here are some guidelines to help you decide:

- Osteopathy: Ideal for individuals seeking hands-on manual therapy focusing on a more holistic approach targeting different systems and districts of the body. Osteopathy is suitable for both adults and paediatric patients.

- Physiotherapy: Opt for physiotherapy if you require rehabilitative exercises, manual therapy, dry needling, and education to address physical issues and injuries.

Massage Therapy: Perfect for relaxation, stress relief, and addressing specific muscular tension or discomfort.

- Pilates: If you are looking to improve core strength, flexibility, and overall body conditioning, Pilates may be the right choice.

Our diverse team of experts collaborates to provide a holistic approach personalised to your needs, ensuring that you receive tailored care for your specific concerns and goals. If you need further assistance in deciding which service best fits your needs, feel free to reach out to our clinic for guidance.

What can you treat with osteopathy and physiotherapy?

Osteopathy and physiotherapy are complementary therapies that can help you with your musculoskeletal issues, which means most of the injuries or pain related to muscles, tendons, bones and so on. The most common issues that we treat are back and neck pain and sports injuries. Osteopathy and physiotherapy are effective by improving not only your movements but also other aspects of your general well-being. You can find more information here.

At what age should I schedule a paediatric osteopathy visit for my baby?

It is recommended to schedule a paediatric osteopathy visit for your baby soon after birth or in the early months of life. Osteopathic treatment can be beneficial for addressing various issues such as cranial reshaping, feeding difficulties, digestive problems, and musculoskeletal imbalances that may arise in infants. Early intervention through paediatric osteopathy can help support your baby's healthy growth and development. You can read more here and book with our Paediatric Osteopath Emma.

How does physiotherapy differ from massage therapy?

The decision to book a physiotherapy session versus a massage appointment depends on your specific needs and goals. Choose physiotherapy if you require rehabilitative exercises, manual therapy, and education to address physical issues, injuries, or chronic conditions. Opt for a massage session if you seek relaxation, stress relief, or targeted treatment for muscular tension or discomfort.

Physiotherapy focuses on treating underlying physical issues and aims to improve functionality, and mobility. On the other hand, massage therapy primarily targets muscle tension, relaxation, and circulation enhancement. If you're uncertain which service is best for you, feel free to contact us [link] for personalised guidance and recommendations based on your individual requirements.

What are the distinctions between a private Pilates session and a group Pilates class?

In a private Pilates session, the focus is entirely on you, with the instructor tailoring the exercises to meet your specific needs and goals. The session is personalised to address your individual strengths, weaknesses, and any existing physical limitations. You receive one-on-one attention, allowing for adjustments and modifications that are directly relevant to your body and fitness level.

On the other hand, in a group Pilates class, the instructor leads a session with multiple participants, often following a more generalised routine. Group classes, however, offer a sense of community and are a great way to stay motivated. We recommend starting with private classes and then continuing with group classes at [name\link], our neighbour here in Islington.

What to expect from your Initial Assessment session?

The 60-minute initial consultation always starts with a short interview, giving you the opportunity to review the history of your injury, share concerns, and align on the goals and a tailored treatment plan. The consultation then proceeds with the clinical assessment which allows the therapist to identify the cause of your issue through clinical and functional tests. Every initial consultation also includes manual treatment, exercises and professional advice on how to manage your condition.

What is included in a Follow-up session?

In your follow-up sessions, your therapist will begin with a brief reassessment to track your progress. They will then proceed with manual treatments and exercises that you can incorporate into your home routine. Additionally, your therapist will guide you on self-improvement strategies and provide advice on effectively managing your condition independently. This holistic approach aims to empower you with the tools and knowledge needed to maintain and enhance your well-being beyond the therapy sessions. We offer follow-up sessions of 30, 45, or 60 minutes.

What should I wear to a Physiotherapy session?

We recommend wearing comfortable clothes that allow for ease of movement during your session. Changing rooms are conveniently located on the same floor as our studio should you prefer to utilise them. For thorough assessment and treatment, there may be a need to visually and/or physically evaluate and address specific areas of concern. Your therapist will always seek your consent before any garments need to be removed, ensuring your comfort and privacy throughout the session.

How much does it cost?

You can see our individual sessions’ fees here. In case you buy a package you will see a discount applied.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on many factors, including the severity and type of your injury or condition, your overall health, and previous injury history. Of course, your commitment to completing any home exercises provided also plays a crucial role in your progress.

Do I need a GP referral?

You do not require a referral from your GP to schedule an appointment with any of our therapists. Rest assured, our therapists maintain open communication with experts, particularly if a second opinion from a specialist like an orthopaedic surgeon or additional tests or scans are necessary. For those using healthcare insurance, it's advisable to confirm whether a referral is needed for physiotherapy or osteopathy services. This proactive approach ensures that all aspects of your care are coordinated and optimised for your best possible outcomes.

Can I use my insurance cover?

Yes - Treatments at Complement are covered by all major healthcare insurance companies both for physiotherapy and osteopathy. Please reach out via info@complement-osteo.com to confirm and share your insurance details (membership, authorisation, number of sessions approved).
